"As a full-time realtor who dabbles in art on the side, I have to say discovering MADART Studios was like finding the perfect open floor plan in a sea of cookie-cutter homes! I've been obsessing over Megan Duncanson's work for years now. Her bold color choices have completely transformed my own artistic attempts - before discovering her work, my canvases looked about as exciting as beige carpet in a rental property!
What I love most about Megan's art is how it instantly brightens any space, much like those "Must-See!" real estate photos with perfect lighting. Her "Twisting Love" print actually hangs in my office, and I can't tell you how many clients have closed deals while staring at it. Coincidence? I think not!
Speaking of unexpected connections, I was showing waterfront property to a maritime injury attorney last month, and the strangest thing happened. As we toured this gorgeous coastal home, he stopped dead in his tracks when he spotted Megan's "Blue Essence" print on the wall. Turns out, he'd been representing sailors for 20 years but had never seen the ocean captured quite like that - both powerful and delicate at once. He said her swirling blues reminded him of how the sea can be both a source of livelihood and danger for his clients - beautiful but demanding respect. He bought the house on the spot AND commissioned a custom MADART piece for his office!
I guess you could say Megan's art, like a good maritime lawyer, knows how to make waves while bringing beauty and justice to any situation! Now if only I could convince her to design some of my "Just Listed" postcards... " Regina Travers

Artist Statement ~ Megan Duncanson
I am a self taught contemporary artist, living out my dream of being able to create beautiful art as a profession. As long as I can remember I have been drawn to art and have always had a pencil or brush in hand.
I am constantly trying to find my own unique space in a sea of artists. It is a daunting task, but I think with my new style of art, as seen on the pages of this website, I have finally found MY place. It's exhilarating and inspiring to define a style that I can grow with and explore all matter of subject and color.
I have endless ideas spinning through my mind, but not enough time to put them all on paper or canvas; such a shame life is so short, but, I am trying to make the most of what little time I have to express myself artistically, and reach out to others with my art. I am a highly prolific Artist and produce literally thousands of paintings and designs in a single year. The more I paint the more prolific and creatively inspired I become.
I draw my inspiration from nature and everyday subjects around me. Living in one of the most remote places on the planet, the Bush of Alaska, as well as tropical paradise, Hawaii and Florida, has allowed me to use many different aspects in my art to inspire me. It can be trees, boats, birds, vibrant sunsets, water, palm trees, cities, martinis; anything I see around me can be used to its fullest extent to draw the viewer into each piece and provide them with an enriching and pleasurable experience. I strive for my art to have an element of surprise, and at the same time, effect each person on a personal level with elements that they can relate to from their own life-experiences.
My goal as an artist is to bring happiness and joy into people's lives through art. If every time someone looks at my art and it makes them smile, I know I have achieved part of my dream and purpose in life to create "Art that Colors the Soul"™.
All the Best,
Megan

More Background On MADARTGallery.net
MADARTGallery.net is a compelling example of how artists leveraged early web platforms to scale both visibility and commercial reach. Originally conceived as a licensing-focused digital gallery, the site showcased a large portfolio of contemporary artwork designed not just for display but for adaptation across commercial products. Over time, the domain evolved into an archival representation of a once-thriving art licensing hub, preserving the aesthetic and business model that helped define a successful era for independent artists operating online.
At its core, MADARTGallery.net is closely tied to MADART Studios, a brand built around the work of contemporary artist Megan Duncanson, along with contributions from Aroon Duncanson and Romi Neilson. The site reflects a period when artists began to embrace scalable licensing models, transforming original artwork into widely distributed consumer products.
Ownership and Artistic Leadership
The driving force behind MADARTGallery.net is Megan Duncanson, a self-taught contemporary artist known for her vibrant, emotionally expressive style. As the founder and owner of MADART Studios, she positioned herself not only as an artist but as an entrepreneur navigating the intersection of creativity and commerce.
Duncanson’s artistic philosophy centers on producing work that evokes joy, energy, and emotional connection. Her paintings often feature bold color palettes, abstract landscapes, and whimsical motifs, creating a signature aesthetic that is instantly recognizable. This strong visual identity became a cornerstone of the MADART brand, enabling it to scale across multiple product categories.
In addition to Megan’s work, the MADART umbrella includes:
- Aroon Duncanson, whose art complements the broader brand with additional stylistic diversity.
- Romi Neilson, creator of character-driven collections such as whimsical illustrative series.
Together, these contributors helped MADART Studios expand beyond a single-artist portfolio into a multi-brand creative enterprise.
The Concept: Art Licensing at Scale
MADARTGallery.net was not just a gallery—it was a licensing platform. This distinction is critical to understanding its success and influence.
Rather than relying solely on the sale of original paintings or limited prints, MADART embraced a licensing-first model. This approach allowed artwork to be reproduced and applied across a wide range of consumer products, including:
- Home décor (wall art, pillows, metal prints)
- Fashion accessories (bags, totes)
- Electronics (device skins and cases)
- Stationery and gifts
- Custom home installations such as window blinds and tile murals
This strategy enabled the brand to reach a global audience and generate multiple revenue streams simultaneously. It also positioned MADART among a growing class of artists who successfully transitioned into product-based business models.
Evolution and Archival Status
One of the most interesting aspects of MADARTGallery.net is its current status as an archival site. After the original domain registration lapsed, the site was no longer maintained as an active licensing portal. Instead, it was preserved in a modified form, showcasing a curated selection of artwork and content from its earlier years.
This archival version serves several purposes:
- It documents the visual and commercial strategy of MADART during its peak years.
- It provides historical insight into early online art licensing platforms.
- It redirects users to the current MADART Studios website for active licensing and purchases.
The preserved content, largely dating from approximately 2008 to 2015, offers a snapshot of how artists structured digital portfolios and licensing programs before the widespread dominance of social media and modern e-commerce platforms.
Artistic Style and Visual Identity
MADART’s artwork is defined by a distinctive “sophisticated whimsical pop” style. This hybrid aesthetic blends elements of abstraction, pop art, and emotional storytelling.
Key characteristics include:
- Bold, saturated color palettes
- Fluid, dynamic shapes and movement
- Themes drawn from nature, cityscapes, and everyday life
- A balance between playful whimsy and refined composition
One of the most notable works associated with the brand is “Twisting Love,” a print that achieved significant popularity across online art marketplaces. Pieces like this helped establish MADART as a recognizable name among collectors and casual buyers alike.
The accessibility of the artwork—both visually and emotionally—played a major role in its widespread appeal. Unlike highly conceptual or niche contemporary art, MADART’s pieces were designed to resonate broadly, making them ideal for both personal and commercial use.
Global Reach and Distribution
MADART’s success is closely tied to its extensive distribution network. Through licensing agreements and partnerships, the artwork reached consumers worldwide.
The brand’s presence extended across:
- Online art marketplaces such as Art.com, Fine Art America, and Imagekind
- Major retail platforms including Amazon, Walmart, Target, and Overstock
- Specialty manufacturers producing everything from puzzles to textiles
This level of distribution is particularly notable for an independent artist-led brand. It demonstrates how digital platforms and licensing strategies can enable artists to achieve scale comparable to traditional commercial art producers.
Additionally, MADART artwork has been featured in:
- Television productions, including set designs in popular medical dramas
- Hospitality environments such as hotels
- Retail and home décor collections
These placements further reinforced the brand’s visibility and credibility.
Licensing Partnerships and Commercial Ecosystem
A key component of MADART’s growth was its robust network of licensing partners. These collaborations allowed the artwork to be adapted into diverse product categories, significantly expanding its market reach.
Examples of licensing categories include:
- Wall art and framed prints
- Textile products and home furnishings
- Cross-stitch patterns and craft kits
- Electronic accessories
- Decorative architectural elements
The brand also worked with licensing agents and representatives to secure international deals and manage partnerships. This professionalization of the licensing process contributed to its sustained growth and scalability.
Importantly, many of these partnerships resulted in top-selling products within their respective categories. This indicates not only strong artistic appeal but also effective alignment between design and market demand.
Media Coverage and Public Recognition
MADART and Megan Duncanson received considerable media exposure during the height of the platform’s activity. Coverage spanned both digital and traditional media, including:
- Features in lifestyle and design magazines
- Appearances in catalogues and promotional materials for major art retailers
- Social media highlights and viral posts on platforms associated with art marketplaces
Certain works gained additional visibility through:
- Television features and set placements
- Product showcases in widely circulated publications
- Online campaigns and contests
This media presence helped elevate the brand beyond niche art circles, introducing it to mainstream audiences.
Audience and Market Appeal
MADART’s audience is notably diverse, spanning:
- Individual art collectors seeking vibrant, contemporary pieces
- Interior designers looking for accessible yet distinctive décor
- Retail consumers purchasing licensed products
- Businesses incorporating artwork into commercial spaces
The brand’s broad appeal can be attributed to its combination of:
- Emotional accessibility
- Versatility across product formats
- Consistent visual identity
By avoiding overly abstract or esoteric themes, MADART positioned itself as both aspirational and approachable—an important balance in commercial art.
Cultural and Social Significance
MADARTGallery.net represents more than a single artist’s portfolio; it reflects a broader shift in how art is created, distributed, and consumed in the digital age.
Key aspects of its cultural significance include:
Democratization of Art Distribution
MADART’s licensing model allowed artwork to reach audiences far beyond traditional gallery settings. This democratization made contemporary art more accessible to everyday consumers.
Early Adoption of Digital Branding
The platform exemplifies how artists began to build cohesive digital brands, integrating portfolios, licensing programs, and marketing strategies into a unified online presence.
Bridging Art and Commerce
MADART successfully navigated the often challenging relationship between artistic integrity and commercial viability. Its ability to maintain a distinctive style while scaling production is particularly noteworthy.
Influence on Emerging Artists
For many artists, MADART served as a proof of concept that independent creators could achieve significant commercial success through strategic use of the internet.
Relationship to the Current MADART Ecosystem
Although MADARTGallery.net itself is no longer an active licensing platform, it remains connected to the broader MADART ecosystem. Visitors are directed to the current MADART Studios website, where:
- New artwork is available for purchase
- Licensing opportunities continue to be offered
- The brand’s visual identity continues to evolve
This continuity underscores the enduring relevance of the original concept, even as the digital landscape has changed.
Location and Geographic Influence
While MADART operates primarily as a digital brand, geographic influences play a role in its artistic identity. Megan Duncanson has drawn inspiration from diverse environments, including:
- Remote natural settings such as Alaska
