MADART Press Release - Oct. 2008

SUMMARY:
Unique Contemporary Art that will stop and make you think!  Megan Duncanson has captured the frustration and anger of
an entire nation and it's reaction to the downfall of the World's greatest economic system caused by a handful of CEO's.

Contemporary Artist Megan Aroon Duncanson, also known as MADART, feels strongly, as many US “Main Street” citizens
do, that the current economic system is blatantly geared toward only the top 5% of wealth in this country.

So, How does a visual artist portray her feelings and contempt for the major players in the collapse of Wall
Street and Main Street America?  With her latest painting titled, “Liberty and Justice for Who???”  This is a
painting that sends a powerful message aimed at the “liberties” afforded to the wall street financial companies
and CEO’s, who have used and abused the system to their own benefit, at the expense of the lower and middle
class.

At first glance the painting appears to be a contemporary/pop style painting depicting the statue of liberty.  But
upon closer examination the meaning and message of the painting is much deeper and darker.  Her use of
Wall Street Ticker symbols and names in strategically placed parts of the Statue and city buildings is worth a
thousand words and then some.  But, most notable is the “Golden Parachute” lifting the tearful Statue out of
the midst of the chaos created by these very companies bailing out with their “Golden Parachute”.  Obviously
this raises the very question of “Liberty and Justice for Who???”

The plaque nestled safely in the Statue’s arm is another sad example of the woeful state of the economy.  A
house symbol with the words “for sale” and “foreclosed” sits above the date, Setember 29th, 2008.  A date that
aptly coincides with the Ticker number emblazoned on the Statue’s crown: INDU -777.68.

A green and white tattered flag atop one of the buildings presents a forlorn site that accurately depicts the
sentiment of most Americans regarding the current economic situation.   The 50 stars are replaced by a
smattering of dollar symbols that are also spread strategically throughout other areas of the painting.

There are little details throughout the painting that constantly draw the viewer back to the message and the
ultimate question addressed in the title.

As a political statement this painting has a strong message that begs the question “where are the liberties for
ALL of America, not just the rich and privileged?”  This is a must see work of art that will become known as a
symbol for the frustration and disappointment towards our government and financial sector that has let Main
Street America down.

Megan Duncason is an artist to watch, and see what new and powerful messages/statements she creates with
her Artistic vision.
